Heat can build up quickly inside of a laptop because of the small amount of space. The fan ventilates the hot air out of the computer, allowing the electrical components to work without heat damage. If the fan on a laptop stops working, it can be replaced with a few tools. Methods of replacement vary depending on the laptop model, so refer to the service manual included with your laptop, if necessary. Repair this problem quickly to avoid overheating and failure of your laptop.
1. Turn off the computer and disconnect any electrical devices. Remove the battery and ground the computer, according to the service manual.
2. Remove the system board, according to the service manual. The method of removal varies depending on the type of laptop.
3. Disconnect the fan connector, and remove the screws while holding the MSI Fan in place on the system board. Remove the fan.
4 Place the new MSI Cooling Fan onto the system board where the old one was removed. Line up the screw holes. Use a screwdriver to replace the screws and secure the fan into place.
5 Plug the MSI CPU Fan connector into the system board.
6 Assemble the laptop, according to the service manual, and turn it on. Listen for the MSI CPU Fan to make sure it runs properly.
